Well, we are right into Christmas party season now, and it is highly likely that a little bit of indulgence has started occurring. It is a great time to spend celebrating with friends and family but how do you want to feel at the other end?

Now, back to Christmas...I think we have all pulled up after an indulgent Christmas feeling bloated and sluggish. With the trap of endless amounts of delightful food it is easy to overeat. If all of these delicious foods were fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein, then we probably would not have a problem. The problem lies in the fact that a lot of these indulgent foods are high in sugar and saturated fats, including all those sneaky drinks that come at this time of year.
Unfortunately, we all have very diverse microbiota (the mix of good and bad bacteria) in our gut and although someone sitting next to you seems to be able to get away with eating whatever they like, a lot of us can’t. These are the lucky few that have been blessed with forming a beautiful microbiota over their lifetime. There is a stack of factors that impact how our microbiota evolves and some of them you are not in control of like inheriting them from your mother etc.
Luckily there are things we can do that will definitely provide positive results. Obviously diet plays a huge role but there are other factors like exercise, sleep, stress, antibiotics and contact with mother earth that all have an impact and we need to try and improve all these things a bit where possible.
